The Beginning of GaelMade — and What’s Coming Next

My name is Clíodhna, and I’m the founder of GaelMade - a small creative brand that celebrates Gaeilge, Irish culture, and design with meaning. This blog is a space for stories, reflections, and inspiration - all rooted in the language and identity I love. Over the next few weeks and months I hope to not only share my story of how I began this venture but also get others to contribute their thoughts on Irish language and culture.

Where GaelMade Began

GaelMade started with a simple idea:

That even one word of Irish - on a tote bag, a pin, or in your home - can spark something powerful. Pride. Curiosity. Belonging. And often for me, warding off homesickness while living in the UK.

I’ve always believed that Gaeilge doesn’t need to be perfect to be powerful. And GaelMade is built on that belief - to create everyday, beautiful items that carry Irish words with heart and heritage. I’ll be the first to admit that my Gaelige isn’t that of a fluent speaker and that it has been used very sparsely since finishing my Leaving Certificate in 2015, but I want to change that.

Each of my products is designed not just to look good, but to mean something. To connect myself and you to the language, even in the smallest of ways.

What’s Coming Soon

This blog will grow just like GaelMade is growing - slowly, thoughtfully, and with a lot of grá.

Here’s what you can expect soon:

  • Behind the Designs - the meanings behind our words and where the ideas come from and some personal anecdotes along the way

  • Language Love - Gaeilge tips and bite-sized phrases for everyday use (Anyone who has any good resources feel free to send them over)

  • Voices from the Diaspora - stories from Irish speakers and learners across the world (Again, anyone interested in submitting a piece, please get in touch!)

  • Sustainable Style - how we create eco-conscious Irish design

  • Sneak Peeks at upcoming collections and seasonal drops
